Scar Remodelling
Scars result after substantial injury to the skin such as after deep cuts and scrapes, abrasions, moderate to severe burns, animal bites, skin blemishes or infections, surgical procedures and more. Scars can cause both cosmetic and functional concerns for a patient, prompting a desire for revision. The Scars can be Atrophic, Hypertrophic, Keloids, Contracture scars.
Regardless of how they heal all scars go through a well-defined period of change and maturation, which can last over a year.
Protecting the area from sun exposure, especially during the first year of healing, is important to minimize permanent dark discoloration
Various Procedures Designed to Hasten the Process of Scar Healing and Well to Minimize the Scar Include:
- Creams & gels (steroids / silicone)
- Chemical peels
- Dermabrasion
- Intralesional injections of different cocktail of medicines
- Lasers
- Microneedling RF
- subcision
- Microneedling
- Scar revision surgery
Laser skin resurfacing: In this technique multiple microthermal zones are created with lasers which removes damaged outer layered skin by applying energy quickly and intensely. This procedure works two-fold, scars are resurfaced and the laser excites the dermal collagen causing skin to tighten which reduces scars visibility drastically. It uses focused light therapy to either remove the outer layer of the skin’s surface or stimulate the production of new skin cells to cover damaged skin cells.
MNRF: RF Microneedling (MNRF) is a minimally invasive technique in which multiple microneedles penetrate the skin to release heat energy beneath the scar promoting collagen induction and growth factors release. It also rejuvenates the appearance of your skin . The RF pulse carried through fractional technique deep into the dermis enhances skin tightening and reduces scars by stimulating the synthesis of both collagen and elastin. The entire procedure causes minimal damage to the upper layers of skin; therefore, it involves marginal downtime and you can go for work the very next day.
Subcision with PRP: Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is an autologous preparation which contains a large amount of platelets concentrated into a small volume of plasma. PRP provides various growth factors which aid in quick wound healing. It is used as an adjuvant therapy for scar therapy which lifts up the scar and promotes collagen synthesis below the scar.
In this technique the scar is excised or its shape is revised to reduce its visibility and remove the scar tissue. Scar revision surgery focuses at reducing the scars by removing them. In this scar is excised by different methods followed by primary closure to achieve the best cosmetic results. Combining it with microneedling and lasers at later date helps achieve the best results.
